Community Partners in Ball Moss Control

  • Baton Rouge Downtown Development District (DDD) Support

The Baton Rouge DDD is actively supporting ball moss awareness and abatement efforts. As one of the areas most affected, DDD is working with city and environmental partners to update tree surveys, map infestation hotspots using GIS, and support the newly formed Ball Moss Abatement Committee through planning and community outreach.

  • City‑Parish of Baton Rouge Support

The Mayor and Metro Council have endorsed the newly formed Ball Moss Abatement Committee, led by Councilmember Laurie Adams, and approved a science-based plan to manage infestations through annual baking soda and water treatments. The City-Parish is also collaborating with its maintenance department and Baton Rouge Green to update public tree surveys and develop GIS-based heat maps to track the spread of ball moss in key areas such as downtown and the LSU campus. These coordinated efforts aim to raise awareness and protect Baton Rouge’s urban tree canopy.

  • Baton Rouge Green: Championing Urban Tree Health

Baton Rouge Green is a long-standing nonprofit dedicated to planting, caring for, and conserving trees across the Capital Region. Through their “Bag the Ball Moss!” campaign, they show property owners how to identify and remove infestations manually. They've also partnered with the downtown district and local stakeholders to help clear ball moss from the central corridor and serve as a connector between the city’s maintenance teams, private sponsors, and residents.
